E komo mai, Mainland Native Hawaiians. E Holomoana Kakou I Mua, “To Journey Forward Together”, initially presented to the Mainland Council by Tina Cabales Carden, a member of Hui Hawaii o Utah Hawaiian Civic Club, in Salt Lake City, speaks to our journey as individuals, as a people and as an Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs.

The Mainland Council has Hawaiians living in many parts of the world.  We are proud of where we live, but Hawai’i is always our home.  Our kupuna have told us stories and history bears them true that the first peoples of Hawai’i came from distant lands to settle in the Islands of Hawai’i. They came from the many isles of the Pacific by canoe, searching for new lands and opportunities, and to fulfill their urge to explore and settle. Some of our ancestors chose to stay there, in the islands of Hawai’i, to make this new land their permanent home. But, there were others who felt the urge to travel and to discover new lands and opportunities.

Today many of our people are still discovering other lands and opportunities. However, instead of traveling by canoe, they have traveled by ships, planes, trains and automobiles. We on the Mainland are this new generation of voyagers.  We have decided to travel to these new distant lands of opportunity, and have chosen to promote and perpetuate our culture there. We persevere, strong and proud as Kanaka Maoli.  Hopefully our efforts will be the satisfaction to know that our culture, which we cherish, will continue to flourish. We, of the Mainland Council, have been challenged to stay on this course of continuing to perpetuate the culture that we so love.

The Mainland Council hopes that you will join us, and avail yourself of the many cultural events and activities that we plan. Again, e komo mai.
